LinuxGSM v26.3.0 is here with two new game servers, the return of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive as a game in its own right, mod support for Counter-Strike 2, a more dependable monitor, and a long list of game fixes.
Action Required: Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Servers
CS:GO is now a standalone game on Steam (App ID 4465480), separate from Counter-Strike 2 (App ID 730). csgoserver has a new clientappid setting for the App ID players connect with. It defaults to 4465480, so after updating, existing CS:GO servers switch from 730 to 4465480 on their next start.
- Players on standalone CS:GO: create a new GSLT for App ID
4465480and set it asgslt. Then run./csgoserver mods-installto install Metamod:Source, SourceMod and then NoLobbyReservation, which standalone clients need to connect. - Players on CS2’s
csgo_legacybranch: addclientappid="730"tolgsm/config-lgsm/csgoserver/common.cfgto keep the current behaviour. Your existing GSLT stays valid.
Full details are in the CS:GO documentation.
New Game Servers
Two new servers join the line-up in this release: RuneScape: Dragonwilds (rsdwserver) and Hytale (hytserver). Hytale’s downloader needs a one-time login with an account that owns the game, and LinuxGSM walks you through it during install.
Counter-Strike 2 Mods
Counter-Strike 2 servers can now install Metamod:Source 2.0 and CounterStrikeSharp with ./cs2server mods-install.
A More Dependable Monitor
- Monitor no longer restarts a server in the middle of an update, start or stop when you use the short commands
u,storsp. - Instances whose names share a prefix, such as
vhserverandvhserver-2, no longer trip each other’s checks and cause needless restarts. - TeamSpeak 3 servers with ServerQuery bound to a specific address (for example
query_ip=127.0.0.1) are now queried on that address. - Colony Survival is now monitored with a TCP query.
- Monitor output now shows the address it is actually querying.
Game Fixes
- Project Zomboid: the admin password is now passed as a start parameter, so new servers no longer hang at the password prompt. Set your own
adminpassword, as the default isCHANGE_ME. - Satisfactory:
-ServerQueryPortand-BeaconPort, removed in Satisfactory 1.0, are no longer passed, anddetailsnow lists the Server API port (7777/tcp). - American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2: the missing
libatomicdependency is now installed, so the servers start. - Left 4 Dead 2: LinuxGSM now works around SteamCMD’s “Invalid platform” error automatically.
- Factorio now loads the latest autosave on start.
- 7 Days to Die: the telnet password is now read correctly.
- Valheim: the config now documents how to disable crossplay.
Fixes and Improvements
- Mod commands now only look up mods for the game you are running, cutting GitHub API requests sharply and avoiding the rate limit that caused failed downloads, especially on shared hosting.
- Dependency checks now support Debian’s deb822 apt sources and check for passwordless sudo before prompting.
- FastDL now includes Source resource files.
- The installer now stops with a clear error if a server has no download configuration.
- LinuxGSM falls back to 80 columns when no terminal width is available, such as in cron.
- Behind the scenes, the CI checks are faster and lint-clean again.
As always, LinuxGSM will update itself with ./gameserver update-lgsm. A big thank you to everyone who contributed to this release, including first-time contributors Doug-Murphy, BreezeDelegate, JSaterdalen, andrewqsantos and yourfate, and to borzaka for a run of fixes and bug reports. Thanks also to my sponsors for their continued support.
